About Us

Mt. Elim is a privately owned Christian camp on Lynx Pass about an hour southwest of Steamboat Springs, CO. It is supported by private donations and by several churches in the Yampa Valley. Mt. Elim is a somewhat rustic facility that can be rented by groups desiring to conduct a traditional children or  family camping experience.  It can also be used for retreats of various kinds, men’s, women’s, youth, leadership, family reunions, etc. Mt Elim also welcomes individuals who would like to get away and personally retreat from their everyday life   Mt. Elim is evangelical and non-denominational in its theology but is also utilized by the local public schools and other non-religious groups.

Mt. Elim was founded in 1954 by several individuals that had a vision for Christian camping.  As early as the 1930”s they were providing children and families in the Yampa Valley with camping experiences in various outdoor locations in Moffat and Routt counties. About 1954 they purchased almost 40 acres on Lynx Pass southwest of Steamboat Springs above Stagecoach Reservoir.  Previously owned by a doctor in Oak Creek, Co as a hunting lodge they began conducting camps using tents along with the lodge building being used for meeting and dining. Over the years they added eight sleeping cabins, a chapel, a recreation building, a covered volleyball and game structure, and a shower and bathroom facility housed in a yurt which replaced the previous outhouses and modest shower building. Many of the past 60 years horses could be found in the coral next to the wrangler’s shack that was originally a sauna for one of the early owners of the property. In 2002 the Mt. Elim board adopted a new vision and developed a master plan that was approved by Routt County to expand the facilities and the use of the property. It also hopes to extend its season to include use into the fall, winter and spring.  For all these years the Mt. Elim board has organized camps during three weeks of the summer for local children and youth in addition to renting the facility to other groups.
